Dear Families,

Our first full week of school is almost drawing to a close. It has been a great week of practicing procedures and learning. Students also met their faith families this week, sat as faith families for our all school Mass on Tuesday, and will review expectations of our Positive Behavior and Intervention and Supports (PBIS) matrix with them. Our program is called CARS and emphasizes the areas of Christian Attitude, Responsibility, and Safety. It will be great to see the 8th grade leaders teaming with the teacher leaders as they demonstrate what to do and what not to do in the various areas of our school such as hallways, lunch room, restrooms, arrival/dismissal.

This is just a reminder that our Curriculum Night for parents of students in Kindergarten through eighth grade is on Tuesday, September 4th from 6:00 – 7:00 PM (parents only). We will begin in St. Cecilia/School Hall promptly at 6:00 PM. It will be a night to learn about classroom procedures, expectations, and the learning which will take place this year. Junior High parents will follow an abbreviated schedule for their children. Two repeat sessions will be offered for parents of K-5 children. Parents will only need to attend one session at a grade level.

Good Old Days begins on September 6th. I am told it is a wonderful fest in Winfield and look forward to visiting it. The parade is on Sunday, September 9th at 1:00 PM. As you may know, the parade goes right past our school and SJB will be marching in the parade. If your child is interested in marching with our school, please email SJB parade participants should meet in the school parking lot at 11:30 AM. Attire should be SJB spirit wear, the gym uniform, or volleyball uniform if marching in the parade. More parade information will be shared next week. Please check the attached documents for the schedule for Good Old Days.

Parent Workshop Opportunity – We are participating in the fifth year of a grant, and workshop opportunities are available for parents. Topics for the workshops include: Child Development, Executive Function, Social Emotional Learning, and Social Stories. Please note executive function is responsible for a number of skills which includes organizing, planning, and prioritizing; paying attention, regulating emotions, and self-monitoring. Workshops would be held on a weeknight. If you are interested in one of these topics, please email me at

Thank you for entrusting your children with us! Please know that we cherish each child and count them as blessings. We embrace our time with them and our blessed to have the opportunity to partner with you in faith formation and spiritual growth of your children.

May your long weekend be enjoyable! Don’t forget that in observance of Labor Day, there is no school on Monday, September 3, 2018. I look forward to meeting more of you on Tuesday at Curriculum Night!
