Dear SJB Families,

It has been another busy week at SJB! Yesterday, our Principal of the Day, was visible and active throughout the day. Miss Olivia enjoyed giving a birthday card, providing an amazing tour to a prospective preschool parent, getting ready for the teachers’ meeting, doing announcements, penning an email, and so much more. Many students were dressed in black and white! Fifth grade and second grade book buddies also got together yesterday to read Bible stories. Our eighth grade students have been preparing something special for our Facebook page which will be coming soon. This morning our fifth grade class received a visit from a Winfield Police Department officer as part of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) program for a presentation about alcohol. Today members from Oakbrook Trout Unlimited came to Junior High science classes along with some aquatic invertebrates. Students observed and handled Stonefly, Burrowing Mayfly, and Caddisfly larvae, as well as the Hellgrammite. Students learned about the adaptations, life cycle, and anatomy of these insects and found out the role they play in the diet and lifestyle of trout. We are thankful to Oakbrook Trout Unlimited for this excellent experience.

SJB has been invited to the Village of Winfield’s Arbor Day Dedication next Friday, April 28, as part of Winfield’s Tree City USA activities. The dedication will take place at 10:00 AM at the Riverwalk Park, which is next to the Fire Station. Our kindergarten, first, second, third, and fourth grade classes will be singing a song as part of the ceremony. All students will be walking to the Riverwalk Park and the police will assist in helping us cross Winfield Road. All are welcome to attend. Public parking is available on the first floor of the new parking deck.

Next Friday, April 28, is our annual Gala. Please join us for a Night at the Oscars. Don’t forget to purchase your tickets before registration closes tomorrow, April 21. It’s not too late to purchase a tuition for a year raffle ticket either. Tickets, tuition raffle tickets, heads and tails game necklaces, as well as making a donation to our fund a need, a new sound system for the gym, can be purchased here. Click on Registration to get started. To view the silent auction packages, please click here. The bidding will open on Friday, April 28 at 6:00 PM. Whether you are at the Gala, or participating remotely, you will be able to bid once you have registered on the auction site. There is still plenty to do for the event. If you are able to assist with set-up, clean-up, and running some of the raffle tables next Friday evening, please click on this sign-up link.

Mark your calendar for Friday, May 12 at 7:00 PM and/or Saturday, May 13 at 1:30 and 6:30 PM. The cast under the direction of Michelle Bucaro and the tech crew under the guidance of Tom Hollatz have been working so hard on SJB’s spring production, Snow White and the 7 Endings, a musical comedy. It is sure to not disappoint. Online ticket sales will be available on Sunday, April 30 at noon here. Limited seating will be available at the door. Please see the flyer in the posting for more information.

If you are looking for a tutor for your child this summer, several teachers will be offering tutoring services. Please see the form in the posting for more information. Completed forms should be returned to your child’s teacher and the teacher(s) you are interested in working with your child will contact you.
