As I have previously shared the Knights of Columbus are incredibly supportive of our school. Last Friday, at the final Advent Fish Fry for the season, I was presented with a check for $10,000 for the Monsignor Cloos scholarship fund. We are so grateful for the many ways they embody the virtues of generosity and benevolence, and freely share their talents, time, and treasures. A special shout out goes to our student helpers who volunteered their assistance and time at one or more of the weekly Advent Fish Fry dinners: Mia Grantz (8), Viviann LeMay (5), Cristian Benavides (7), Matthew Dawson (7), Jack Marsden (7), Jacob Spencer (7), and Joey Zagotta (8).

Blessed are we at St. John the Baptist Catholic School! Joy was certainly exuded yesterday as our students joined together in faith families and sang Christmas carols in the Winfield community. Our core value of embraced by community was certainly manifested as children shared the gift of music at local businesses and service providers such as the fire department, the post office, the library, the Village of Winfield, and the police department. All were met with appreciation and gratitude for the music provided.

We ended the calendar year this morning at SJB with a school Mass, culminating in a simple presentation of the Nativity story by our first-grade children. What a beautiful way to begin the celebration of Christmas. It was wonderful to have so many parents as well as our preschool students with us. Afterwards, the students truly enjoyed the class Christmas parties. Thank you, Parent Club and room parents, for the fantastic parties! We truly are grateful for your time, creativity, and for the festive start to break!

This is just a reminder that the school office will be closed during our Christmas break. School will resume on Monday, January 9, 2022. Don’t forget that there is a Cook’s Night out on Wednesday, December 28 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Chipotle on Roosevelt in Wheaton. 33% of event sales will come back to our Athletic Department! Thank you for your support! Paper flyers were sent home today and there is one in the posting.

Due to the weather, we did not put the luminaries out today.  We will save those for another time.  Weather permitting, luminaries will be set up and lit at 9:30 PM on Christmas Eve.  Thanks, Dad's Club, for taking this on!

If you ordered spirit wear and have not received your order yet, we will let you know when it arrives.  Fingers crossed, orders come today or tomorrow.

As we draw closer to Christmas, I close with a quote from Pope Francis. “The Birth of Jesus brings us the good news that we are loved immensely and uniquely by God, and he not only enables us to know this love, he also gives it to us, he communicates it to us!” How precious it is to know that our Emmanuel, God, is with us. I pray that this Christmas you and yours are enveloped in our Lord’s love, blessed by time with family and friends, and wish you a joyous, safe, and healthy New Year.

With joy,

Joanne
